13-storey是Treehouse Series的第一部，讲述两个男孩Andy和Terry正烦恼怎样在短时间内必须交稿给大鼻子出版编辑，在他们那独一无二，一共13层的树屋发生了一连串的故事，有惊险的有搞笑的；首先，Terry要把邻居Jill的爱猫变成金丝雀，怎么变？把猫咪涂成黄色后，直接从树屋抛下就行了！Andy在惊恐中目睹猫咪长了双翼，飞起来了！接着，Terry又说要等他订购的“海猴子”送来，没时间写书。“海猴子”是啥东西？最后演变成什么闹剧？就让你和孩子一起去发掘吧！

这套书我觉得最成功之处，是把孩子们能想象的以及不能想象的玩具、游戏、动物、机器机关、食物，一股脑儿装进树屋: 一把可以把物品变大变小的枪，一个布满鲨鱼的水池，一个直接把棉花糖喷进嘴里的机器等等，都是让小男生（或小女生）听了很high的东西。另外，插画家打破传统文字加插图的排版方式，活用书本页面，让读者时而经历动画版的视觉享受，时而从貌似杂乱无章的画面得到无穷乐趣，所以即使整本书是黑白印刷的paperback，却依然紧紧吸引大小读者。

故事中的三个主人翁，Andy、Terry和Jill都是现实生活中的真实人物，来自澳洲。Andy是他的综合版本，而Terry就是插画家，Jill的原型是Andy的太太，也确实是个爱动物的人。如果你是Treehouse迷，这里有更多关于作者和插画家的作品链接：

What books did you like reading as a kid?
Some of my special favourites were Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr Seuss, The Adventures of the Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. I also loved sci-fi comics and MAD magazine.

How did you come up with the idea to write about a Treehouse?
One day I asked Terry to draw a really big treehouse with lots of fun—but dangerous—levels. He drew a treehouse with 13 storeys and we thought it would be fun to write a book in which we imagined ourselves living in it and all the adventures we would have. We enjoyed writing the book so much we decided to do another one, maybe a series, and we decided to go up by 13 levels each time.

How many books will you write in the Treehouse series?
Well, we started with 13 levels and each book has 13 chapters and we add 13 new levels every year so perhaps 13 books would be the perfect number, finishing with The 169-Storey Treehouse.

Is Terry really as silly in real life as he is in the books?
Are you kidding? He’s even sillier!
